Breakfast Isn’t Down; It’s Different – And Less Expensive

I was headed to the airport early this morning and listening to the local radio news. It was announced this morning that breakfast is making a comeback? Why? It is the slowest time at fast food chains. Fewer customers are coming in during the morning hours. Rather than seeing this as unavailable service times, smart restaurants are using this as uncharted territory. So chains are taking advantage of this “down time” in their economies as a positive marketing tool. They are making it a different experience – and less expensive.

Waffle House, a Southern US based restaurant chain is now offering almost all of its breakfasts for $5, including beverages. McDonald’s is now touting its “Dollar Menu” items. Syndicated radio and HLN consumer advocate Clark Howard says to look for more fast food chains to jump on the bandwagon and advertise dollar menus as restaurants search for new ways to get customers out of rush hour traffic and into their drive-up lanes.

How are you making a “down time” in your market different to capitalize on an un-met need?
