The Moneyball Factor

My understanding is that “Moneyball” is a movie about a Math whiz from the Ivy League who assists in the procurement of players for the 2002 Division winning Oakland Athletics baseball team. The A’s didn’t have much money to buy great players with that year (as opposed to the Yankees or Red Sox with a lot of cash to sign top players).

At one point the whiz kid tells his boss that he understands what produces baseball wins. Wins are produced by runs, not fat contracts and hitting percentages. That is what the game is about.

What is your business “game” about? How have you gotten stuck in the motions of the past or your competition and it has taken you off of your “game” (your focus on results)? What is your business really about?

Most business are about results in customers – not what we sell but what THEY are buying. If you get closer to your customers and what they are buying, you will sell them MORE and they will bring in other customers for you. It is that simple.

What is the real “Moneyball Factor” in your business? What is the result you want? What do you need to do to get back into your “game?”
